The Foundation for the Future: Infrastructure Modernization as an Engine for Digital Growth

For data to provide valuable insights, it must rest on a solid foundation. For the BÖCKMANN fashion house, we professionalized the existing data architecture and created a scalable enterprise infrastructure that now serves as a stable anchor point for all of the company's digital innovations.

The Project at a Glance

The BÖCKMANN fashion house is a prime example of a traditional company that consistently seizes the opportunities of digitalization. In joint workshops, we quickly identified the need to set a fundamental new course.

We determined that to sustainably achieve their ambitious digital goals, the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipeline and the Data Lake needed to be elevated to a new technological level. cc.systems took on the consolidation and modernization of this business-critical infrastructure.

The Challenge: Transparency and Scalability

BÖCKMANN was already using an extensive pipeline to process data from a wide variety of sources, including the ERP system, workforce scheduling, SharePoint, and others, making it available for corporate dashboards in Power BI.

The technical foundation is provided by Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, and various databases. In organically grown structures of this scale, the challenge is often to ensure transparency and reproducibility across all systems.

There was a lack of separate development and testing environments, as well as automated processes to roll out changes without risking live operations.

The goal was clear: To create a professional infrastructure that not only runs stably but also gives the company full sovereignty and agility over its data streams.

Our Solution: Consistent Professionalization of the Infrastructure

1. Assessment & Reverse Engineering

In the first step, we conducted a deep analysis of the existing codebase. We untangled historically grown structures and consolidated the scattered data sources. This created the necessary transparency to understand exactly what data is transformed and calculated at which point.

2. Establishing a Multi-Environment Strategy

One of the most important innovations was the setup of a dedicated development environment. Previously, there was only the production system, which made changes to the live system particularly demanding. Through this separation, the BÖCKMANN team can now test new features and pipeline adjustments in a safe environment before they are automatically deployed into live operations.

3. Automation and CI/CD

To standardize the provisioning of the infrastructure, we implemented a modern DevOps approach. With the help of ArgoCD, Terraform, and Ansible, the entire environment is managed as Infrastructure as Code. The system is now fully reproducible. Furthermore, new backup concepts, monitoring tools, and automated alerting systems ensure the smooth operation of the on-premise Kubernetes cluster.

The Basis for Unlimited Possibilities

It was only through this stable and transparent infrastructure that further innovations for BÖCKMANN became realizable in a short timeframe and with high quality. The modernized pipeline now serves as an "enabler" for numerous projects that enhance the customer experience and internal efficiency:

  • Networked Workforce Planning: The seamless integration of workforce data now enables intelligent online appointment booking for customers.

  • Target Figures App: A digital workflow replaces complex Excel structures and feeds validated purchasing data directly into the system.

  • Real-Time Store Analysis: The integration of sensor data allows for the precise evaluation of visitor flows and conversion rates per sales area.

  • Dashboard Portal: A central access point provides all employees with role-based access to daily updated KPIs via Power BI.

The Result: Strategic Sovereignty

Through the modernization of its infrastructure, the BÖCKMANN fashion house has gained full control over its digital roadmap. The company is now able to implement new market requirements with agility, while IT managers can rely on a system that is documented, secured, and scalable according to the highest standards.

Quotation marks

What impressed us most about cc.systems is their strong customer orientation. They consistently work toward the best possible outcome for the client and do not stop at the first workable solution. Instead, they continue refining and improving ideas until a truly strong and well-thought-out solution for the customer is achieved.
